Special Occasion Speech: The Avengers To a world of division, turmoil, and utter chaos were eight heroes born. These eight heroes were none other than the Avengers. Now if you think that I am speaking of Thor, Black Widow, Captain America, Hulk, Clint Barton, Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and the sleek oh so awesome Iron Man, aka me, you are terribly mistaken. These eight people were not born in Asgard, but into a world in which they saw internal and external need. They did not have the specialized powers of hand to hand combat, thunder, or super strength. They did not possess big circular shields with a star in the middle, or in my case high tech body armor. But they possessed something that empowered them for a lifetime, something that inspired themselves and others; the power to dream. Sandra Day O’Connor, Maya Lin, Jimmy Carter, Mary McLeod Bethune, Cesar Chavez, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Eleanor Roosevelt each used the power to dream to break barriers and crea te social change. Everyone in this room has the power to dream, and that is greater than any superpower. The birth of a dream is like a cycle. First you live. You must live through the abundance, the depravity, the easy times, the hard times, the trials, the triumphs, and the fails. Why? To shape your character and discover desires out of life, not just for yourself but for others. Second you understand the needs of the public. Do communities need support from the government?
